Tutoring and Education - Difference and Commonalities
Tutoring and Education - Difference and CommonalitiesTutoring and education have evolved into parallel systems. Tutoring is a system where the learning of the student is planned around the development of the learning. The University tutors and teachers follow the same strategies for teaching students that were used in learning and teaching processes of the past. The traditional tutor in this case has been a tutor or teacher for centuries now. Thus the methods and styles in teaching and tutoring have changed over the years to adapt with the changes in teaching and learning. There are many similarities between these two types of learning that allow us to learn in a unique way. The fundamental difference between tutoring and education is that tutor and teacher interact with the students on a one-on-one basis. In the case of education, there are different groups of students which are interacted by the school personnel. We find teachers who have a different style of teaching and their diffe rences are discussed.Education and tutoring in schools still complement each other. The tutoring system must be carefully managed to avoid abuse of the tutors or impinging on the students' right to privacy. These matters should be addressed. The major difference between the two systems is that, in schools, there is a clear demarcation between teacher and student. However, in some schools, the teachers have very little control over the teaching methods and curriculum. It is common for there to be variations of the teaching materials, instructional and even meeting hours between the teacher and the class. There are students who are frustrated due to the inappropriate type of teaching material and time.In addition, students tend to complain about not being able to learn from the teacher's lecturing and the lack of self-evaluation in education. In the case of tutoring, we find that the students are very independent; they want to learn and ask questions about the methods and material, whi ch are not seen in education.Techniques and methods of teaching and learning should be tailored to suit the students' age group and temperament. As a matter of fact, there are similarities between these two systems. Teachers and tutors should use the same ways of teaching and learning in the same manner. This can be done through structured lesson plans, recognition of results and assessment. The major difference between tutoring and education lies in the time scale. Since education is usually time bound, teaching can be much longer than the time it takes to be trained by a tutor. Some schools follow some flexible method of timeliness in training.
